Arkana was a railroad and lumber town on the 1905 St. Louis Southwester Railroad line. This railroad was known by its nickname of “The Cotton Belt Route” or simply “Cotton Belt”. The Arkana Post Office was established in 1890 and discontinued in 1900. James B. O’Neil was the first Postmaster. The Trigg Lumber Company had a large mill in Arkana. Arkana was named from its location in Louisiana near the Arkansas state line.
