Angola is a small town in West Feliciana Parish. The Post Office was established in 1877. Thomas Strickland was the first Postmaster. The Post Office serves the town of Angola and the Louisiana State Penitentiary there.
In 1890 the state purchased the Angola Plantation. In 1922 the state added Panola Plantation and later the Loch Lomond and Monrovia Plantation.
The Louisiana State Penitentiary is nicknamed the “Alcatraz of the South” and “The Farm”. It is a maximum security prison farm operated by the Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections.
